I will reinstall Avast now and let you know. Nothing from Windows Defender and other cleaners seem to be coming up empty.
After reinstalling Avast for just 5 minutes and enabling extension in Chrome no popups so far. Will update.
The only changes I mage since having the popups were uninstalling Chrome and Avast and Running Rogue-Killer (deleted DNS I thin PUP warnings) and AWD Cleaner. All yesterday until reinstalling today.
Do you have the Rkill and adwcleaner looks for me to peruse
Might need it because I just came back after a few hours reconnected the internet and got the wpad threat from Avast through svchost process. Amazing nothing then after a few hours idle it comes back. Will follow up in the am est tomorrow. After everything came up clean. Will run those 2 scans again.
OK ran scans with tools Rogue Killer, JRT and ADW.
It was fine until reinstalled Avast then let sit. Thanks again and good nite from here.
This sounds very similar to my issue. Now this morning no initial popups but I expect them soon.
OK I believe we have pinned down where it is hiding

I can’t get to that page or link. Not sure why. 64 bit
The requested URL /SystemLook.html was not found on this server.
And I’m getting the warnings again after computer was left on and timed out after reconnecting internet.
OK it appears that the page is now down for some reason
So we will use FRST
Copy and paste the following into the search box in FRST :
browserupdatecheck;wpad;wpad.browserupdatecheck.in;browserupdatecheck.in
Then press Search Registry
A log will be generated please post that
Busy day but here is log.
Interesting article:

Right click this link https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/tcpip.reg and select save target as…
Save the file to your desktop
Double click TCPIP.reg
Accept the warnings and allow to merge
Then reboot and the alerts should be history
Only able to “Save Link As” but still was able to click and add to registry.
Any clues as to what I just did?
And is there a risk a registry cleaner might reverse these changes?
No immediate warnings. I’ll be away from this laptop for a couple days but will follow on this thread. It seems significant to let the machine “sleep” then reconnect for the warnings to appear. After that I’ll follow up on this thread.
Thanks for the work on this issue.
The reg fix removed all references to the bad wpad link
So you should no longer get any alerts
OK so I’ve returned home from work and rebooted and no warnings. Now we have multiple reboots since the last procedure and it seems clear. 8) Thank you for your help.
Do we have any cleanup procedures or advice moving forward?
Subject to no further problems
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
