Using Windows XP Home, I kept getting an error message (error 384, available data link was not found, deleting file) So installed avast 4 home. It found no problem. So I ran sysconfig and found wstat32. deleted occurances of it on machine and in regedit. Why did avast 4 home not find problem and repair it?
I’m not sure but, maybe, this forum could help you: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=3178
Could be the temporary folder problem…
DJ, do you mean that avast! didn’t find a virus on your computer?
Well, everything is possible… if you could send the file to virus(at)avast.com, we would check it… if you already deleted it, however, we can’t do anything about it.
Hi Igor-- Thanks for your response. The 2 occurances are deleted and the registry changed. I think Wstat32 is a Trojan. Would alwil avast 4 detect and delete a Trojan? --DJ
Sure, avast! detects many trojans…
Google thinks so, too ;):

Should probably be detected by avast as Win32:Loony [Trj] with
VPS 0403-5, 09.03.2004
what was your VPS date/version, when you detected it ?
Thanks to all posters for this message.
1 Maybe Wstat32 loaded before Avast installed.
2 Correction to orig post: I ran start, run, msconfig, not sysconfig.
3 For future, I’ll send virus/trojan suspect file to virus (at) avast.com
