I have the same problem.
After upgrading to Windows 8.1 and reinstalling the latest Avast IS, Wuala is simply unable to connect until I temporarily disable the Avast firewall.
Even if I explicitly add wide open TCP/UDP application rules for wuala.exe in the Avast firewall, it still doesn’t work.
This blocked traffic doesn’t even appear anywhere in the Avast logs… and yet it is clearly Avast that is blocking it.
If I remove all wuala.exe rule and reconfigure Avast to prompt me for new applications, then I try to run Wuala… I am not prompted by Avast. It is as though Avast is blocking traffic that it isn’t even seeing/detecting.
(FYI - The Windows Firewall doesn’t seem to have any influence on this issue. Whether I turn it on or not, the symptoms remain the same. Only disabling Avast allows Wuala to work.)
Suggestions? This makes Wuala almost unusable with the latest Avast IS.
