x64 & RPC error

“the AAVM subsystem detected an error. The operation could not be completed” is the result of clicking on the a icon in the systray.

Just what exactly is it trying to tell me. I just upgraded to x64-and definately don’t want to be w/o an AV solution.

Assuming I can get this RPC question fixed, I’ll be going Pro from the free home version. Do I install on top or remove the home & install Pro?

TIA

Bah! That should read “The AAVM detected an RPC error…”

How did you install Windows x64 Edition? Was it a clean install, or an upgrade from a different OS?
If an upgrade, did you have avast installed in the old OS? If so, you’ll need to reinstall avast in the new (64-bit) OS as it uses different components as the 32-bit version.

Clean installs only here-I think repairs and upgrades only delays and exacerbates the inevitable Format & reinstall…

OK, in this case, please open Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Services, and check the status of the “avast antivirus” service. Is it running? If not, can you start it? If not, what error message do you get?

Thanks
Vlk

avast service is set to start automatically…but it won’t.

Attempting a manual start gives me the message "Could not start the avast antivirus service on local computer. " Error is 1068-the dependency service or group failed to start.

The avast AVS4 Control Service is started automatically.

Any ideas?

OK, so most likely the kernel-mode driver did not start.

Can you check the folder \windows\system32\drivers? Does it contain the following files:

aswMon2.sys
AavmKer4.sys

?

Also, can you try updating to the latest avast version (4.6.665) (by using the Program Update option in the avast tray icon menu).

Thanks
Vlk

I’ll check it out as soon as I get home from work.

Make sure that the Avast service wasn’t stopped!!!

;D

Uninstalled the old version and installed 4.66whatever…and it’s working perfectly.

thx for your assistance
