I read on a forum that there is a “new” virus circulating through email called “Xombe”. It is send to internet-users by email by offering a fake windows xp patch. According to the bulletin where i read this news, it places a file called “msvchost.exe” in your windows system folder. If installed it downloads stuff from a unknown site, so you are vulnerable for DoS attacks.
I am using Windows 2000 Pro SP4,…are there similar fake patches for this one too? Or is this simply affecting XP users?
Does Avast recognize this virus? Is the Avast Viruscleaner regulary updated for removin worms?
How does Avast know which virusses are new? Are tech-guys reading forums and such all day? Just curious bout that ???

This file is a common name for XP services running in the background.
As further I know, Windows 2000 has the same ‘services scheme’ as XP. But you don’t have to update by this way. Use everwww.windowsupdate.com
