Avast home on my XP system
When I try to go on line with Avast on no joy. However if i switch Avast off it works ( as you may suspect) Once I have been to one web site ( any will do) I can switch Avast on again and then carry on browsing…
Any ideas

If you just disable WebShield provider, can you browse?
Do you use a proxy filter (anonimyzer program, for instance)?
Which is your firewall?
What browser are you using?
Have you tried another one?
Usually it is not intermittent but total either you can connect or you can’t. Can you give some examples of when you can’t browse and give some examples of the sites you are trying to visit?
