XP not booting - hangs at aswrvrt.sys

This seems to be a frequent problem on this forum, so i’ve seen the instructions on how to get logs. since i wold have to drive into the office to do all that, i just wanted to check first what timezones/hours people who can help are active?

The situation: Dell Vostro 1520 laptop running xp with service packs, and up to date Avast. last thing my wife was trying (and failing) to do before rebooting was print to a Brother MFC. System sticks on XP splash screen for normal/last known good boot, and in safe mode hangs at aswrvrt.sys

Most of the helpers that could assist will be on European time

ok, here is my frst.txt

Initially I will try a restore point from 2 days ago and see if that work. There is some adware on the system

Download the attached Fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

Thanks,
Here’s the fixlog

I tried rebooting after fixing, without success. I then tried the previous restore point (26 March) but again, no luck.

I shall await further guidance

And booting successfully. What steps should I take re virus/malware protectionif Avast is removed?

What we need to do is reinstall Avast (there should be no problem this time)

Download Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

[]Run the uninstalltool and accept the reboot to safe mode
[
]Once complete reboot your system
[*]Reinstall Avast
