XP Security Center: AV Not Running

Windows Security Center sees Avast (and reports correct version number), however it always says that it’s not running.

I’m fairly new to Avast, but I can’t find what I’m missing. All of the services appear to be running. Can anyone help me out with this? ???

Haven’t you turned off the Standard Shield on-access provider in avast?
Also, what happens if you double-click the avast (a)-ball tray icon?

When I double click the ball a window comes up for On-Access scanner. As far as I can tell it’s running, since when I right-click the ball I have the option to stop on-access protection.

Click ‘Details’ and see if the ‘Standard Shield’ (and not the other providers) is running…
Do you see a red cross into the ‘a’ blue icon on the system tray or just the ‘a’ ?

Thanks… now that I know what I’m looking for I see it’s not there. I’ve reinstalled the program and made sure all of the resident options were selected. Everything seems to be working as expected now.
