Hi all, first time poster. I arrived home today to see a balloon from xp saying it cant find my virus protection even though Avast is up and running. Uninstalled and put Norton on and did not have this problem. Put Avast back and and im back to the balloon agin. Was there a recent update to Avast that may have caused this?
You don’t say what version you are using home/pro the latest version being 4.5.561.
If you have that version of avast, I would suggest that you try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If you are sure that avast is running and providing protection (avast icon rotating, email, etc.), you have nothing to worry about and could switch off the anti-virus monitoring in the security center.
Is there anything in the security center or the windows event logs to give any further info?
NAV is most likely the one due to the lack of detection…
I mean, avast complains about NAV presence and SP2 Security Center complains about two antivirus at the same time
A good uninstall of NAV, registry cleanning and avast will be detected smoothly 8)
I am having this same problem. I’ve read back a few pages in the forums and saw several people also with the same issue. I also used Norton before Avast!. I uninstalled it by following Symantec’s very complicated uninstall directions from their website. Then installed Avist! and I still get the warning saying XP can’t find an antivirus program.
I’d appreciate any help if someone has fixed this before.
Can you boot in Safe Mode and try to repair your avast installation?
Boot while pressing the F8 key.
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If you can’t make it work, please, post the contents of the C:\WINDOWS\system32\config.NT file.
Also, post the contents of these Windows Registry keys in your system?
