I personally enjoy variety in my computing life.

The easiest linux based OS that I’ve used is Mepis. It is simply a pleasure to use.

I also use Debian ‘Sarge’ , Ubuntu/Kubuntu and Knoppix.

A few of the problems that I have with the Linux based OS’s is lack of hardware support. More hardware developers need to make their drivers available for Linux. I’m tired of hacked drivers… I can’t get my Wacom Graphire4 tablet to work on any distro that I’ve used. It is frustrating. Graphics card choices are pretty lame because of poor opengl implementation by the graphics card companies.

I am forced to use Windows XP for a pleasant gaming experience and graphics editing/processing with my tablet.

I really do love using Linux. I like the idea that I always have that free alternative and those big repositories of open source software. Linux based OS’s are quite capable, but at the same time… they can be very difficult for common users. I’ve had to use the console many many many many times. I don’t mind, but many people do.

I don’t like this whole Vista DRM thing. I will stick with XP and Linux.
