XP won't start in safe mode, but hangs on aswbidshx.sys

Hi. I noticed that you assisted similar situations before, could you perhaps assist me as well?
With normal use, my PC recently froze and refused to reboot pass the ‘Welcome’ screen.
When. Safe reboot is attempted, it gets stuck at aswbidshx.sys (preceded by aswblogx.sys and aswbunivx.sys), after which it goes into a black screen and is then totally unresponsive.
The last significant action that I can recall was a repair on my Avast configuration.

Please post in the correct forum.
This one is for help on malware removal and information about it.

Sure, please show me how? I tried to find an option but have not been successful.

Unless you are using a avast version that is not mentioned in the forums description > https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2.0

Hi,

I have the same problem with windows 7. It has a blue screen when starting. Booting into safe mode it stuck in the exact same file.

Did you found a solution?

Can someone please either post a solution, link to the proper new Thread or just delete this Thread?
It is really annoying finding this in the top hits on google! kthxbye

Edit:
Did I mention you WILL get necros if people find this on google frequently?
