XP won't start in safe mode, but hangs on aswrvrt.sys

Hi, I have a problem where XP won’t boot normally and hangs on aswrvrt.sys when booting in safe mode.

Hope you can help me with this problem.

Thanks, Richard

Hi what happened prior to the failure to boot… Did you download any updates at all ?

Please print these instruction out so that you know what you are doing

[*]Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
[]Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
[*]Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
[*]Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD
[*]Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
[*]As the CD needs to detect your hardware and load the operating system, I would recommend a nice cup of tea whilst it loads
[*]Your system should now display a Reatogo desktop.
Note : as you are running from CD it is not exactly speedy
[
]Insert the flash drive with FRST on it
[]Locate the flash drive and run FSRT
[
]The tool will start to run.

[*]When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Press Scan button.
[*]It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

Windows updates were the last thing I did before this problem.

Attached it the FRST.txt file.

Thanks for you help!

Windows updates seems to be doing this a lot just lately

Run FRST as before and press fix

When it has completed reboot to normal windows

Hi Essexboy,

I followed your instructions and now Windows XP boots correctly both in Safe Mode and Normal.

You really made my day by helping me out. I really appreciate your support.

Thanks again and Have a Wonderful Weekend!

Hi,

When I try to run the OTL.exe, it syas: “This application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem”

What should i do/reinstall?

Thanks

Ok, I think I’ve fixed it but I’ve only got one file after running it. Please see attached.

You appear to be running from the Reatogo desktop, was the system able to boot to normal mode ? As that is where I would like you to run OTL from

I don’t know, I just run it as is… I have some new interface there. Can/Should I change it some how?

Yes could you remove the USB and reboot to normal windows please

Oh, lol. I had the feeling that what’s causing it… I’m affraid though that I’ll get that framedyn.dll error again. I’ll do it when I’ll get home from work later this evening

Download a fresh copy of OTL once in normal windows

I can’t because I can’t connect to the internet. It doesnt recognize my network card. I’m trying to install the driver, but it takes ages. Is the file I’ve sent completely useless?

What error do you get from windows when you try to access the net ?

Download the attached fix.txt to your desktop
Run OTL and press run fix
OTL will ask for the location of the fix.txt
Navigate to and select the file you downloaded and press run fix again
