Are you being redirected to a local yahoo.com as I am to uk.yahoo.com ?

Check out this topic related to Yahoo redirects, primarily I did a Yahoo search (ironic) on ‘stop geo redirect for yahoo.com’ there are some that are finding issued with the redirect just stalling. https://www.webmasterworld.com/yahoo_search/3650643.htm

No, I am in USA…
when clicking home page, yahoo.com appears on address bar but nothing on screen…waited for more than 35 seconds or so, I just click on google via menu bar, google comes on in less than 2 seconds, after that I click on Home Icon, yahoo.com appears instantly.

Here’s what I notice recently, if I turned off AVAST or uninstall AVAST, yahoo.com comes on without any hitch.
I reinstall AVAST again…back to square one…has to do with AVAST programming or setting.

One more thing…it does not redirect to UK or anything else, just nothing on screen except for grey circle that keep circling around cursor…like it is waiting for window to open…

It is waiting for the redirect to complete, which is what DavidR wants to see: The actual final address you arrive at would be your clue.

Example: In Opera browser, with VPN active and on, the yahoo homepage appears as thus: https://ca.yahoo.com/?p=us whereas in Firefox, it is this: https://www.yahoo.com/

Both load normally, but both browsers also use adblockers; adblockers can prevent redirections from the intended page you wish to visit.

I wasn’t expecting you to get redirected to uk.yahoo.com, that was just my example that people can get redirected to their local yahoo pages. Just to say that this redirecting goes on and could have an impact. Why it should only start now is strange.

Thanks - Interestingly your example https://ca.yahoo.com/?p=us doesn’t redirect to uk.yahoo.com.

I have Firefox block many connections from search results and some sites because there is a page redirect going on, that I have to allow. Whilst this can be a bit of a pain, I do prefer there to be some checks on redirects to a 3rd party site.

I see your point…it does not redirect. just grey circle on cursor keeps circling.

Here’s what I am doing this time. I stopped yahoo.com page from loading, hit F5 to refresh, yahoo.com comes back on instantly then I went to Tools > Internet options> Home page> Use current> Apply> ok> x.

seem to work ok, will find out after this pc is reboot.

yahoo.com works great with avast uninstall.

could it be internet setting?

Let me get screen shot and post it here maybe there is different interpretation.

I’m at a loss as to what else to suggest.

As I don’t have win7 64bit and in win10 64bit that has Edge as the default browser (I don’t use that) and would have to drop back to IE11. So I’m unable to test under your conditions.

Do you have the avast Browser Security Add-on (Avast On-line Security) installed ?
I say this just in case as I believe it is no longer compatible with IE11.

Another option, have you tried disabling the IE11 SmartScreen filter ?

As far as I’m aware it would work, based on previous instances on earlier versions of avast, but it was more the SmartScreen that was the fly in the ointment.

I thought avast had stopped installing the AOS add-on (not WebRep) for IE11 because of SmartScreen and Protected Mode.

I know that, which is why I mentioned the AOS add-on as a possible conflict, as previously the same issues were found when the SmartSceeen was also enabled.

I still don’t know how the AOS got installed on IE11, unless it remained from an earlier installation of avast. If a clean install of avast 17.4.2294 were made I don’t know if avast would install the AOS on IE11.

It is a bit of a moot point as the OP has made his choice as to what to disable/remove, his system, his choice.

IE11 protect mode is still enable…all I did was uninstall Avast Security Browser extension and Safe price browser extension. These were the add on from Avast.

This morning when I first turn on this pc, click on IE icon on bottom of taskbar…bam…yahoo.com came on in less than 3 seconds.
