Yahoo IM Error with Avast 5.6 Home

Just upgraded my Avast Home to the new version. Now when Yahoo IM starts I get the following error from Yahoo IM.

“The procedure entry point dep_fsSetFileAttributes cound not be located in the dynamic link library aswCmnOS.dll”

After I say ok to the error, yahoo IM seems to run ok, just not sure what the error is about and what I should do to try and fix it.

I would suggest that you try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, avast! Anti-Virus, Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

This may or may not work, but it won’t do any harm.

Are you sure its a Avast problem (did you reboot when you upgraded to the latest version).
Or maybe a reinstall of Yahoo will help.

Just an update, I am guessing it is in Avast now for sure. I use Copernic Desktop Search. I just started it to find my copy of Yahoo IM so I could try reinstalling that, but got the same error.

Also did a “Repair” of Avast in Add/Remove programs, but still get the error.

gwheaton, I’m sorry to ask this, but have you ever used an avast keygen on your system?
That would explain it… :slight_smile:

Those keygen authors not only cause damage to software vendors but are also usually poor programmers! :slight_smile:

Does disabling avast solve the problematic login?

Anyway, look if there is not a copy of one (or more) of the following files in your \windows\system32 folder:

aswCmnOS.dll
aswCmnB.dll
aswCmnS.dll

If so, DELETE them. Those files should be in the avast folder, not in the Windows folder (where some keygens are known to put them… :()

Also, only seem to get the error when I am connected to the internet. (As far as Copernic Desktop Search goes.)

When I disconnected from the Ineternet (only on dial up :frowning: No High speed wher I am at.) The desktop search program did not report the error. Reconnected to the net and then the error started again.

Waiting for a new Hard drive to get here next week then I am going to do a new system build and will be reinstalling everything.

New AMD 64 3000+ and MSI K8Nero4 mother board and 250 gig SATA drive. So Might just wait until then and see what happens with the clean install.

Did a search using Windows Search (Since Copernic I don’t have indexing .dll files).

Did a search for aswcm*.dll and only found ones in C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast 4

Can the string “dep_fsSetFileAttributes” be found in your version of the file aswCmnOS.dll? (without the quotation marks)
Does avast work normally (i.e. do you have the avast icon in the tray, for example?)

Ok, uninstalled avast, rebooted, reinstalled and rebooted again and now the errors are gone.

And all seems well.
