I am helping a friend do their yearly re-register. When they try the download it takes four hours and then when it says they are within 37 minutes of completion it quits and tells them it cant continue. They have tried it twice. The main problem is they have dial up and cant get DSL or anything faster. Since I already run Avast can I download a CD and then load to their computer or will that mess me up? Thanks
Hi shargu, welcome to the forum
Downloading the installation file somewhere else with a better connection and using it later is perfectly ok. I would imagine it is a preferred method for all.
You can download the install file, transfer it to a CD and then copy that to the computer with dial up…

For dial-up users, the use of download managers is a must have imho (as it allows resuming).
I suggest Free Download Manager.
Firstly re-registering doesn’t require that they download the program again, just that they register again.
If they still have avast 4.8 likely as you talk of annual re-register and they are trying to download the latest avast 5.0 version:
I would suggest that they 1) use a download manager so that it can be resumed if the connection fails or 2) try downloading it at a local library (and burn to CD or USB stick), they often have broadband access.
