ComboFix log attached, can’t seem to locate the OTL log. It crashed my computer once, but ran fine on reboot.

Also, finally finished running aswMBR overnight, took longer than I thought it would and fell asleep while it was running.

I am still getting popups, but thankfully not as many of them.

Process:
\.\globalroot\systemroot\svchost.exe

Infection:
URL:Mal

Added OTL logs from the re-run

After those first few notices, after reconnecting to the internet, I haven’t actually gotten any more…

OK aswMBR revealed all

Download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.

[*]Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application

[*]Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.

Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply.

Was I supposed to disable AVAST before running that? It flagged tdsskiller as a rootkit. I will post the log when I can, it doesn’t seem to like the Post button at the moment on the actual infected machine…which is where the log is saved…

Posting log, or trying to anyway

I am also still getting lots of blocked url notices…so I don’t think the tdss cure actually worked. Let me know if I should try it again, but disable the Avast shield first…

Oh!..almost forgot to add this. When I clicked reboot, I got a BSOD instead. :frowning: Reboot itself went fine after that though

Could you re-run TDSSKiller with the same parameters as before
When you see this element select delete :

\Device\Harddisk0\DR0 ( TDSS File System )

I dont have the option to “Delete”

I can choose :
Skip
Copy to Quarantine
Cure
Restore

Nevermind…that was on the Rootkit entry. Will post log after rebooting.

Avast still flagged it as suspicious and malicious and all that when running the cure and the delete…

Log has been attached.

Also, a bit of good news: Didn’t get any popups this time when the computer reboot, but I did see something weird. It asked me to run a program when windows was booting, that I didn’t recognize. I dont know what it was and didn’t think to write down the name and path, if It asks again I’ll add to this.

I chose not to run it btw, since I had no idea what it was…but the fact that something attempted to run on boot that I didn’t tell to run on boot is a bit scary…

OK could you delete the TDSSKiller quarantine file, otherwise Avast will keep finding it

Could you now run a fresh OTL scan please so that I can see what is trying to load

Logged

How is the computer running now ?

As far as I can tell, problem solved. No popups, no more BSOD’s, etc etc and so on. YAY

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Remove ComboFix
[*]Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
[*]In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall
(Notice the space between the “x” and “/”)
then click OK

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Misc%20screen%20shots/CF_Uninstall-1.jpg

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.

Clear Restore Points

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button
