I am having several problems with my paid Avast service (I have the Avast Premier package). Until today, everything was working correctly. However, now Avast refuses to protect my computer. Here are the issues I’m having:
“YOU ARE UNPROTECTED”
-
“Avast background service is not running. Start Now” - Clicking “Start Now” does nothing. The cursor will spin as if something is loading, and then nothing happens.
-
“Firewall is turned off. Turn On” - Clicking “Turn On” gives the error message “Unable to start firewall!”.
-
“Resolve All” completely locks up the computer, requiring a hard shut-down.
Similar to everyone else here, I have had no success resolving the issue on my own. I’ve tried:
-
Repairing the program - did not solve issue.
-
Uninstalling and reinstalling the program (making sure that there were no Avast files left over from the previous installation before reinstalling) - did not solve issue, and presented a new one.
I cannot use my license to activate my Avast software. I’ve re-downloaded the license, and even had it emailed to me, and neither have worked. I’ve tried loading the license directly from the browser download, and I’ve tried saving the file and opening it through Avast, and I’ve tried simply copy/pasting the activation code. Nothing works. I get the following message:
“Unable to insert the license file. The signature is invalid. The license file is corrupted or modified.”
I get this error message for a license file downloaded directly from my account page (on the Avast website), and is opened only through Avast (during the attempted activation process).
I’m assuming this has something to do with the new “Nitro” update. If possible, I’d like to opt out of that and return to using the previous version. I feel like that’s something that I (as a paying customer) should be able to decide for myself.
Before I get the usual, generic troubleshooting responses:
- Yes, I’ve tried restarting my computer
- Yes, I’ve tried repairing the program
- Yes, I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program
- Yes, I made sure there were no Avast files remaining from previous installations
- Yes, I’ve tried downloading and using my license file in every possible way
- And yes, I’ve tried restarting my computer again
