Good news! You no longer need to register

Newer versions of Avast Free Antivirus will no longer ask you to register, and older versions will keep working even after they’ve “expired”.

Good time.
There is a question about the old version (Avast Free 5.1.864), OS Win7-64 and WinXP-64.

Will the old version work after it has “expired” or not ?

I don’t believe Avast 5 is actively supported, yes virus definitions should still work, but there aren’t going to be any program updates. What I don’t know is if the ‘no requirement to register’ function would be supported Or if it would update automatically after a period of time after it had expired.

It is tough to say one way or another as most users on the forums are using later versions of avast. Your win7 64bit system should be able to run the latest avast version.

What about users of older systems ?
(for example WinXP or Win2000)

Someone to ask a question, to register at the link below ?

There are many serious reasons NOT to use the latest versions of Avast.

You might not have noticed, my signature below posts, indicates I use XP Pro SP3 (also win7 and win10 systems) and I have the latest avast version.

There might be reasons you feel not to use later versions, but there are also points for their use.

W2K users can run Avast V8, which is still supported.
