Your avast! subscription will expire in 445 days!

For the last couple of days I have been receiving the red nag screen that my subscription is about to expire. It was giving about 170 days to expiry which did seem a bit early for the reminder  Anyway eventually I reregistered with a new licence key but now I still get the nag screen, currently with 445 days to expiry! ???

How can I get rid of this?

That’s quite strange…
What operating system do you use? Is your system date set correctly?

Please, post the last 300-350 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

I’m using Vista Home Premium, and yes my system clock is correct. The last three days worth of entries from the log are attached.

Strange… seems that your license key is a trial one…

12.09.2008	15:59:14.000	1221215354	general	Part of license key: S9999999T9945A1106

Your time and date seems correct…

12.09.2008	15:59:08.000	1221215348	general	Started: 12.09.2008, 15:59:08

Your log seems ok… Hope Igor could help on this…

Interesting indeed.
I have a theory that would probably explain the symptoms, but I admit I don’t know how it happened.

It seems that you inserted the key without UAC elevation (are you logged on as an Administrator, or restricted user? Do you have UAC enabled or disabled? Did you get the UAC prompt when you were entering the key?)
Therefore, the system (e.g. the LOCALSYSTEM account where the services are running) can see only the original trial key - while the ordinary user account (where avast! GUI parts are running) see the new registration keys in their virtual copy.

I’d say… try to enter the (same) key again, and make sure you are logged on as an administrator before doing that.

Interesting, and you’re probably on the right lines. I previously had problems installing Avast! with UAC: see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=37406.

I don’t know why I should get these problems though. I have UAC on but using an account with administrator privileges. Still, I’ll try entering the key again with UAC and see if it gets anywhere…

That seems to have sorted it. Turned UAC off, entered key, turned UAC back on again. No nagging since!

Thanks for posting back the solution
