Zone Alarm problem

Hi all

Over the last 24 hours my firewall keeps telling me a new Avast progam wants to communicate with my PC. I tick the firewalls always box and click allow. About 10 mins later the Avast pop up tells me my “data” has been upgraded and this is about 4 times, at least, as long as normal.

The next time I log on it goes through the same damn process even if it’s only 2 hours later.

I’ve been using both these applications for years and this has never happened before so what’s going on?

Is it only happening to me?

Peter

Won’t it help if you uninstall, boot and install ZA again?
Or, at least, delete the avast entries, close ZA (not only disable), boot, and allow again?
The ZA settings seem that aren’t being saved.

I’m not sure that I’ve understand you and the problem is on avast update and reboot…

 Hi Peter :

What Avast Version number(s) do you have BEFORE AND
AFTER this "Popup" ? Are you sure it was from Alwil
 Software/Avast ?

Hi

I use the freebie Avast and the freebie ZA, the version before the latest 3 week old disaster.

This might be a tempory glitch but every time today I logged on my firewall asked my to OK Avast. I’ve checked my ZA settings and Avast is still a trusted, ticked, program.

Over the months of working together this never happened until today/yesterday so something has changed and I’m damned if I can find it.

I posted here to see if any other Avast user had similar problems so I’ll wait and see if the beauty sleep stalwarts have anything to say when they get their mud packs rinsed of tomorrow. ???

Peter

For some people and for reasons I do not know, ZA sometimes repeatedly forgets the settings for some programs. I have never had this happen with ZA. Try Tech’s suggestion above as that usually works for most people.

The few times this has happened to me,
I simple removed the program from the
ZoneAlarm program list and let it ask me again.

Hi All

Thanks for all the replies . I’ve been online a few times today and ZA has not once asked me to confirm my Avast communication. I can’t tell you why because I have not noticeably done anything.

I will not save this in my helpful forum post’s folder ::slight_smile:

Peter

Your welcome Peter.
I’m glad we where able to help even if we didn’t do anything… ;D

Hi Bob,

For reasons unknown to me ZA can sometimes change the program settings. This can hamper programs.
Settings is the word, and once in a while you check them up, set them to all question marks, and off you go again.

polonus

Hi Polonus,
I prefer to remove the one program that’s causing the problem.
It’s easier than changing them all to ask (?) position.
Just a personal preference.

 Hi all :

Thought it might be another ZA 6.5 "quirk" coming out !?

Highly doubt it… ;D

As bob3160 said, highly unlikely – the intermittent quirk’s been a part of ZA as far back as I can remember. I tend to think of it as a relative of Sun Java’s notorious “check for updates”, just one more thing that I suspect never will get fixed.
