This is probably one-off but I’ve posted in the interests of providing as much feedback as possible.
In an effort to limit bandwith use for a colleague with a basic cable account, I tried to update his perfectly-running Win 95 PC from 1178 to 1201 using the 1201 installer package. Three times I got the attached ‘setuperror.jpg’ response. I turned off automatic updates and rebooted after the first time just to be sure no update was in progress. I was eventually successful using the inbuilt program update (‘summary.jpg’). Does a corrupt or aborted update cause this sort of error? Ideas anyone?
I have to wonder if this might not be connected to the issue Vlk referred to as part of the 1201 comments in the evangelist’s forum. There has been a similar reference to the problem you observed in another thread.
No, I don’t think it’s connected.
It’s a problem (with the detection of an already running setup on Win9x) that was fixed somewhen between 1169 and 1195. I’m afraid you’ll have do uninstall and reinstall this time (should be OK the next time).
As I said, I did successfully update to 1201 with the inbuilt updater. Do you mean then that I’ll have the same problem if/when I try using the next installer to update the program, e.g 1201 to 1205, unless I uninstall/reinstall?
Ah, I missed that sentence. No problem then.
I just meant that when updating from <1195 to 1195 on Win9x using the full installer, this problem occurs. On-line update works normally.
When you are on 1195 or later already, even the (future) updates using the full installer should work correctly.
