2 VBS:malware-gen during malwarebytes scan

while i was doing a malwarebytes scan avast alerted me to 2 VBS:malware-gen
22/02/2017 01:06:45 C:\ProgramData\Skype{FC965A47-4839-40CA-B618-18F486F042C6}\Skype.msi|>RemoveAllShortcuts.mst\01_Validation [L] VBS:Malware-gen (0)
and
22/02/2017 01:09:36 C:\Windows\Installer\97e47e4.msi|>RemoveAllShortcuts.mst\01_Validation [L] VBS:Malware-gen (0)

both showed malwarebytes as process
both items were moved to the chest but i cant remove them to do a virus total scan

malwarebytes showed nothing wrong
maybe its a FP but just to be safe.

the same is happening to me it just started recently and im scared since this is a brand new computer and i dont want it to have anything serious like this already, like you i have run malware bytes and done full system scans it detected the virus and i put it in the chest but everytime i open something like opera or firefox avast states its blocking the virus any help would be much appreciated.

Also sorry I dont mean to use your post with my problem too only i didnt know what else to do and this way maybe it well get more attention i dont know.

i managed to do a virustotal scan of the skype .msi i had to add it to the exclusions list (which i didnt like doing) but everything seems to be clear on virustotal side, im guessing its just a skype update that avast is flagging

just did a full system scan and avast found 83 malware-gens some of them programs i know are safe so i think avast is having issues right now

Well I’m facing the same problems as you.
I’m going to report this topic to virus analyst

do a full system scan and you will find alot of results of VBS:malware-gen. The whole avast detection is broken right now

Now still detects this file, others are still apparently normal.

Reported for virus analyst

VBS:Malware-gen is a false positive, VPS with a fix is being rolled out. ETA <1 hour.

Another customer here getting reports of false positives, we getting a break on the money we pay for this BS, not the first time Avast has detected false files.

Hi have been reading these posts I have about 160 files now in virus chest As was the VBS:Malware-gen.
Avast warned me I had a virus so did boot scan.
Would be releaved if its not an issue, have done Malware Anti-Malware scan it looks to be coming up clean.
have windows 10, Avast antivirus have just updated to 20day trial premium.
Not sure how to do a screen shot re virus chest.
So what now re chest.???

thanks have updated the VPS, computer seems ok. What do I do about the files in the chest, I tried to restore them but it tells me they …You are trying to restore a file from the chest but the file already exists…

At Avast’s suggestion, I ran a full-system scan and a boot scan.

FILES WERE DELETED. Some of those were Windows system files.

What do I do now? Some files are also in the Virus Chest.

Recover the files from the chest.
If you get “file already exist”, skip it and move on to the next file.
