Hello I’m new to this whole forum and… just today I’ve been trying to recover my Grandfather’s laptop.
He tends to open any, and every, email he gets (he’s pretty new to the stuff) and I guess that’s where he got all the viruses from.
So I ran a system boot scan with the Avast! and… after a few hours or so I ended up with 2000+ infected files in the chest.
I didn’t know what to do with them so I searched it up on the web but… I only found answers for what to do when they’re like 2 or 3 files…
Most (or actually all) the infected files seem to have the “Win32:Rontokbr-I2” Virus?
So… sorry if this is not the right place to post this but… Can I get some help on what to do with these?
Welcome
Leave them in the chest as they are safe there.
What is the operating system and Service Pack level?
The laptop is a Vista and… SP2 I believe…
So… do I just leave the files in the chest… and that’s it?
Should I eventually delete them at some point?
you could re scan them agian in the chest after a few weeks agian. if they still comes up at threts you can delete them. but as kenny sad the chest is agood place to but infection in becouse it can not hurt your computer from there. i suggest you scan with MBAB and/or SAS to be on the safe side.

good luck and let us know how it goes. and welcome to the forum from me aswell.
Ignore the complaints given by SAS about cookies as they are basically harmless and are needed to keep log in information to forums.
What is in the chest can be left in the chest for as long as you know they are not needed by the system but can be removed in a week or so.
As you can’t caution your Grandfather on the perils of today’s malware infested Inernet then you need to make sure his laptop has adequate protection.
WinPatrol is a very good Security Monitor and will pop up a warning screen and bark a warning if something is changed on the system that it monitors so that he can make a decision as to approve the modification or not:
