Hi there, I’m very much a newbie and am really stuck. avast found three virus and I followed the advice and moved 2 into a chest but it couldn’t move the 3rd (it was the same as the first one but I can’t remember what it is) I then ran a boot scan as recommended. However, after the boot scan I can no longer access exe files. I can access the internet only by going thru c: drive and program files. All my office files have the message ‘There was a problem sending the command to the program’. I have started the computer in safe mode but still nothing works, not even avast. I’ve also tried to uninstall avast using aswclear.exe in safe mode as I read somewhere it might be conflicting with something else but that doesn’t work either because of the exe problem I have. I’ve downloaded MBAM but it won’t open cause of same exe problem. I’ve tried to restore but receive an error message that the restore was unsuccessful. Any suggestions? Regards austea
Austea, I have exactly the same problem. I did a quick scan which found nothing, then I did a full scan and Avast found 3 serious problems… the file directory/name ended in ‘Emul’. I did an internet search on ‘Emul’ and the site recommended I should delete this potential worm/virus. Therefore instead of putting into ‘chest’ I proceeded to deleted the files through Avast. As you found only the first two were deleted (the 3rd was the same name as the first so I assume that since it was deleted it could not be find it a second time). On following the recommended reboot I now can’t open any programs by either clicking the destop toolbar or going through 'ALL Programs" (although Windows Explorer does open but no files will open using it). Perhaps there is bug in the latest upgraded of Avast since your post was only yesterday. Hoping the forum can come up with a much needed solution!
Regards Chris
Hi there, you will be so very pleased to hear that a post on another forum members topic (see below) works. It’s very simple and successful. All my .exe files now work! Give it a try and good luck. Regards Annette

I had the same problem a couple hours ago. I found three instances of 'Win32:Cycbot-KI [ trj ]. I decided to let avast do its thing and after restarting my computer I wasn’t able to open most .exe applications and avast was disabled. It was a little frustrating but i found a fix for anyone else with the same problem. (On windows 7) Go to Start/Search and type CMD In the Search Results right click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator. In the Command Prompt type SFC /Scannow. Once it’s finished corrupted files will be repaired and your .exe’s will work once again. cheers.
