4.6 Pro Not activating

Hey Everybody,
My first time ever using a forum so if my voice sounds nervous…

I downloaded 4.6 Pro but, little blue ball not spinning nor does it show usual stuff when cursor is hovered or when right clicked. It’s as if Avast! is not running on my wife’s computer.

Have rebooted and looked all over Help but can’t find how to ‘turn on’ little blue ball.

Suggestions please?

Can you see the icon and it’s not spinning? If you left click it and go to the Standard Shield provider, does it shown the last scanned file?

Here’s what’s happening:

First, I apologize but am not sure what you mean by Standard Shield provider.

Second, on my computer, when I left click on the blue icon, it shows the On Access Scanner. I can then click on any of other icons such as Internet Shield, I.M., Network Shield, etc…

On my wife’s computer however, it starts the scanner.

Third, the icon is not spinning which, I understand to mean it is providing protection.

Fourth, when right click on my blue icon it shows options such as:
On Access Protection Control
Start Avast! Anti-Virus
Avast! Log Viewer
Etc…

On my wife’s computer when I right click it gives options such as:
Pin A! to Start Up Menu
Send To
Etc…

Fifth, I do not see any information about last file scanned.

PS, why does my post have a little thing next to it saying “I am llama.”?

Maybe you need to click in the buttom ‘Details’.

One of the icons should be Standard Shield.

Not necessarily. She could disabled the spinning of it.
Now, right click the icon and choose Program Settings.
Then go to the Apearance tab. There is the option: “Animate the icon when scanning”.

Click on the Profile buttom at the top of this page (in your browser) and configure your forum settings.

However, a few glitches.

Since downloading free version of Avast!, globe never made it to task bar and my wife ( I asked) never did anything to program. She did not disable spinning globe.

Also, when I click on the blue icon on her computer, am not given options to change anything because it is not linked to Avast. As mentioned earlier, am not given usual Avast! options. It is as if the icon is not linked to the program.

So, cannot click on Shield or anything other than Pin To Start Up Menu, Send To, etc…

Therefore, I cannot click on Program Settings because the option is not given.

On my computer, I can get the picture below but not on wife’s laptop.

Also, on picture you thoughtfully included, I am only given option for Less Details.

Finally, when I did enable Virus Scan it locked up her computer. So, couldn’t even perform AV scan function.

Is there (or was there) another av on that system? If so which one?

Most recent was Norton AV 2004.

Did complete removal.

Previous to that had Norton AV 2005 but had to reformat drive because of conflicts.

Sounds like there are still trace of NAV left.

  1. Remove Avast
  2. Remove NAV completely http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606
  3. Reboot
  4. Install Avast

Cool. Will do and see what happens.

Tried to do System Restore (XP OS) and couldn’t even get that going though I could run the Avast! AV scan finally. Also did AdAware and SpyBot to see if some little buggers were hogging RAM because I would watch the performance monitor max out to 100%.
