5.0.396 Scanning memory

I was just maintaining a friend’s laptop, a small Win XP Dell. Actually, I think the engine was pre-.396, since it has updated since, but anyway, I did a scan only on memory.

I thought it would take about a minute or so, but it kept on cranking away. And as it progressed the MB/min began to shrink and the total amount to be scanned, extrapolated from the progress meter, began to expand. At 3G of scanning, I shut the thing down.

Avast 4 used to scan memory upon loading for a manual scan, so that’s what I thought I was going to do, but obviously something is amiss.

Other than that, very nice interface. Also, I love the wildcards in exclusions!

Hi Paul,

Welcome to avast forum.

Hi Chiang. Thanks. I’ve been around for a while, but Avast is so smooth I generally don’t have cause to post!

Be blessed,

Choose “Create Custom Scan” > replace “all harddisks” with “QuickStartupMem” > OK

Which option i choice ? All files or ???

Edit : Never mind. Thx for the help i like the create scan of avast!

Thanks. The closet I can come to this is “Auto-start programs”, both for me and for All Users. I tried that and 225M of files were scanned in several seconds. So I guess that’s what I was trying to do. In that case I don’t know what the Memory scan does.

QuickStartupMem must be typed in where the “All harddisks” pulldown selector is. It’s not a listed option.

Ok, thanks. That seems to be working.
