After updating to 6.0.1000 I got the Avast Sidebar application.
I went into the Gadget list and uninstalled it.
Rebooting the computer this morning…it’s back even though it doesn’t exist in the Gadget list.
How do we kill the Sidebar app. all together? I don’t want it there and don’t know why it was put there WITHOUT my consent to begin with.
How come it asks us about installing WebRep but not the Sidebar app. and closing it and uninstalling it doesn’t fix it?
Go to : Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - select Avast! - Add/Remove - select Change - next - uncheck Avast Gadget - next. It maybe needs a reboot when finished.
Hell yeah it’s way more difficult since for every gadget for the sidebar you just X it out and it doesn’t reapear AND if you uninstall it then it doesn’t exist and NEVER will show in the Sidebar. If it doesn’t exist in the Sidebar list then how does it still show up in the Sidebar? >:(
I agree with you George, the extra steps of going into Control Panel, after having removed it from the Gadget list, are irritating.
And I would’ve kept the gadget if it wasn’t two or three times bigger than any other gadget I have and knocked one of my favorite gadgets off the sidebar.
Yes they are irritating (though once done no more irritation), that is a problem within avast 6.0.1000, depending how you installed it (update over avast5 or clean install, etc. The gadget might have been located in the shared gadget folder, because of that would be reinstated as it is a shared resource upon reboot.
This has by all accounts been resolved in the current pre-release build of avast 6.0. But if you have already removed it that isn’t going to make any difference.
