6.0.1289: Yellow exclamation mark on the wireless tray icon

same problem as before with wireless icon (yellow ! mark) as in he beta thread on more than one system, fresh install and update same results

its driving me nuts!! just updated 2 other systems and now they have the same problem with the yellow exclamation mark on the wireless icon in the taskbar, so def not just this one system. also ran awsclear with same results.

why has no one mentioned this from avast many people in the beta thread mentioned it and there was not a single response that i saw from avast??? and yet it was released with the same problem??? not cool

I am also having the yellow ! on my wireless icon in my taskbar on both of my W7 x64 machines, but… This has been happening for the last couple of weeks or so on the stable release, as I never participated in the beta testing.

So it seems to me that is was from a virus database update??

Could you please try if the problem persists even if you go to Web Shield’s expert settings, check the “Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only” and reboot?

Thanks
Vlk

ViK I also have the same issue with the yellow exclamation mark on the wireless tray icon but after I checked the “Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only” and reboot the issue is not reproducible.

Good to know - thanks for testing.
I think that in this case, the issue should be fixable even without a program update (just through a definitions update).

I’ll keep you posted.

Thanks
Vlk

You are welcome Vlk
I also checked the Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only" and reboot my second computer and the problem is not reproducible

same here for me so far…

I did have that first thing today with the wireless icon on my win7 netbook, but for me it didn’t persist. Hovering the mouse over the wireless icon (just going to check the wifi status) changed that state and the full bars icon sans exclamation mark was restored.

Yep, that has seemed to have fixed it here too.

I have the same problem, the solution of Vik I’ve solved it.

My question is, will you fix it in an update?, When solved, I have to uncheck “Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only”?

Thanks and sorry for my english

Is this problem in the free version or in Internet Security ?

If the problem exists on a system my guess is that it is not specific to a particular avast version as this web shield function is common to all versions.

If you look at the signatures of those who have them you will see it in AIS and free.

Hi Guys,
we are trying to reproduce this problem here, and we were somewhat successful, although it happens only once in 20 to 30 times (reboots/reconnects) here. The yellow mark usually disappears after a few minutes.

Could you please try to enter the following IP address into the “Ignored addresses” box on the Troubleshooting / Redirect settings tab. This is the address of www.msftncsi.com, where Microsoft tries to connect while detecting the Internet availability. It seems MS doesn’t like us to interfere here.

[s] - Open Avast main GUI

  • Click Settings
  • Choose Troubleshooting
  • open Redirect Settings bar
  • Find Web - “Ignored addresses” box
  • Enter the following IP: 213.199.181.90
  • Click OK and restart.[/s]

Edit: this is not needed anymore, as this IP address is not scanned by Avast by default.

Thanks.

Whilst the time period where my wifi icon displayed the exclamation mart was short and disappeared when I hovered over it.

I applied this workaround and rebooted my netbook and first I had the Red x (normal whilst initialising I believe), but then went straight to full bars no yellow exclamation mark.

@DavidR,

Isn’t that almost the same as before for you? I mean, the final effect or consequence is that you regain your connection after several seconds, with this new ignored IP address or before you added it. So, effectively, almost no difference. Or maybe I missed something here?

No it isn’t nearly the same.

I had a period where the yellow exclamation mark was there and would stay that way unless/until I did something about it, e.g. hovered my mouse over it before I could open it to check the connection the yellow exclamation mark would go. That would only be short as I twigged I needed to do something about it.

After the work around I don’t get any period where the yellow exclamation mark is displayed.

When you say you needed to hover the tray icon to restore normal connection, was this action:

A_ needed just once?
B_ needed once after every boot?
C_ needed more than once per boot (like after Avast update for example)?

I generally don’t report things that happen ‘once.’

OK, thank you for clarifying that. I know you wouldn’t report something that happened only once, but in this case you answered / contributed to someone else with your own experience, so it might have been such a case. I wasn’t sure (or didn’t understand it clearly). That’s the reason I asked.

Options “B” and “C” are not “that much” acceptable for a permanent use.

Again, thank you.

Same problem, I’m Vietnamese :
