8000+ UDP messages to the CZ server

… mailed the Alwil guys the following:

First of all: I really like your scanner software! You are doing a great job.

I am using your application for a couple of weeks now and until recently I only found minor problems with the application.

I am using a Sygate Personal firewall together with a webserver that acts as a router/NAT forwarder and proxy.

Over the last couple of weeks Ive seen LOTS of traffic on the firewall caused by ICMP Pings of code 0 (and I still remember the infamous smurf attacks ). This traffic is so very bad that it causes my server and the @Home network (my provider) some real problems.

So, my question would be: what is going on here!? I think I need to shut down my avast software and go back to my good old mcafee. It seems to solve the ping problem…

And the reply I got: (at least I’ve got to give them they had the decency to mail me a reply)

avast! pings our servers to check if new updates are available. You can disable the feature of avast! “automatic update” (see help file).

GUYS! the problem is not pinging just once … the software causes to ping 8000+ in a few minutes

oh… and another thing… where 's the uninstall button?
???

;D ;D Oops!!! Sorry! Today, we had a massive ddos attack and our servers were really busy!! Should not happen anymore… :wink:

But 8000+ pings - are you sure? It’s way to much…

Anyway, if you’re connected permanently, and want to get rid of the pings, add the following to avast4.ini:

[InetWD]
AssumeAlwaysConnected=1

(you need to have version 183 or higher for it to work).

Hopefuly you don't want to use it anymore, but -- it should be located as usual, in Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. Isn't it?
