A Fast Question

i got a fast question i am getting ms office 2003 what is the difference between OME and the retail version if i get the OME would that be a problem???/

OEM not OME.

OEM software is usually supported by the seller of the software and not MS, that is one of the reasons it is cheaper you don’t get MS support. and once installed on your system it isn’t meant to be transferable to another system.

Personally I feel Office 2003 is over priced unless you absolutely can’t live without the MS Office badge. There are other Office packages which are at least as good and are much cheaper (Ability office) and some are even free (Open office 2.1). These other offices packages usually have a similar features/program spread, word processor, spreadsheet, database, presentation packages, etc. and most also are able to open or save to MS Word/Excel formats.

So if you just need a word processor and spreadsheet there are other options.

When I bought my p.c. it included Microsoft Office but only on a trial basis, in the meantime I heard about Open Office, but like so many others ‘raised’ on Microsoft products I thought surely it couldn’t equal Microsoft’s version. Well I downloaded it and I love it!! It is equal in virtually every way, the only thing it lacks is email and a calendar. But if those things aren’t crucial to you, why put more money into Bill Gate’s already ‘exploding’ pockets!! Go to the Open Office website and check it out, you’ll be amazed and it’s TOTALLY FREE!!

You can get a Thunderbird from Mozilla for e-mail, and they also do a calendar program- can’t remember what it’s called.

EDIT: Seems they do two, Sunbird or Lightning:

You could also get a Gmail account. They also offer a calendar.

ok that sounds good but i also want a powerpoint program so i guess i am going to have to buy it :-[ anyways

Those other options we gave you also have presentation software and often they will be able to read Power Point files, you can even get a PP reader (free) from MS I believe, If you have to create PP presentations, they might also be able to save in power point format.

Don’t just take what we say as the total functionality for the alternative Office products. Do you homework check them out look at the functionality before splashing out hundreds of dollars. OpenOffice presentation component http://www.openoffice.org/product/impress.html.

I Highly Recommend the OpenOffice Suite. Its files work seamlessly with Office files on Mac, Linux and Windows.

Plus for mac users it has the advantage of being intel native where the MS Office for mac is not and must be run in Rosetta. Open Office will completely replace MS Office on my Intel mac (in january when I can afford it, Im still using PowerPC Macs for now :'()

clueless,

OpenOffice runs powerpointshow (pps) perfectly. Try it and I think you will like it.

:yea it is good i downloaded openoffice i think i am going to keep this program  it has pretty much all the ms program like word and powerpoint …ect at least these are the ones i need the most
