I have been using Avast paid products for three years now and have become familiar with them. When my license ran out for v4.8, I thought I’d give this v5 a try. Went through the normal uninstall procedure and then installed the Internet Security Suite. I use two different USB->SATA adapters for backups on this workstation (one I’ve been using for a year, the other for six months). I started my normal backup routine today and just after I plugged in one of my adapters, BSOD. I restarted, checked the windows logs and couldn’t find anything. I thought my SATA adapter could be going bad so I plugged in the other one, BSOD. So, after another restart I disabled Avast and plugged in the original adapter, no BSOD. I plugged the other adapter in, no BSOD. I don’t want to chance another crash, so I’ve unplugged my adapters and restarted Avast.
I can’t rule out a non-Avast problem, but that’s what it is looking like to me. The bugcheck info:
The bugcheck was: 0x00000019 (0x0000000000000020, 0xfffff8a012123a10, 0xfffff8a012123b30, 0x0000000005120105).
I built this machine myself and it has never had a BSOD. Here are some generic specs from this machine:
Win 7 x64
Asus KFN5-D SLI
16 GB DDR2, ECC

I’m working on getting the minidump processed. I thought I’d post this for now to see if anyone had an idea.
