a red circle on avast!

hello

My system is windows XP sp3.

Recently my avast pro 4 updated to lated version but after that I have a red circle on avast! a-ball icon in system tray and when I click on it, the error message appears saying “the AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error. The operation could not be completed.”

I’ve followed the instruduction below:
http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-red-circle.html

I did this all the way throw twice and three time but it didn’t work.

So evently my Avast is not working at all.

Can you help this?

How long have you had the pro version (and is this a trial version) ?

Another issue that can have this effect is - Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

The update could have been a catalyst that conflicted with remnants of a previous install.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

deleted-found the answer in OP.

I purchased full pro version of avast 6 months ago. I’ve tried repair the avast on the add remove programs but still don’t work.

What about the other AVs question ?

You could try a clean re-install, ensure you have a copy of your license key that you were sent by email before doing this.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

  1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.
  2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  3. install the latest version, reboot.

As you recomended I’ve uninstalled the avast on the safe mode with Uninstall Utility and reinstall the latest avast. But still I have a red circle. !o!

Now I’ve looked at the Computer Management > Services > avast
And try to start the service.

The error message said:
“Could not start the avast! Antivirus service on Local Computer.
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.”

What firewall are you using? Make sure the updated version of avast! is not blocked by your firewall.

The question i have been banging on about from the first post is any previous AV, as this can have a huge bearing on this, which is why I have been asking and asking and asking again.

If it is other AV related (or possibly Firewall as sded is asking) you can reinstall until you are blue in the face if it/they is the underlying problem.

I have Windows Firewall that blocks incoming connection except Avast. But still avast has a red circle and still not working.

I’ve turned off the Windows Firewall now and updated the avast but still have red circle.

I give up, no more questions .

swen7, please, follow the thread and answer David’s questions… other antivirus or remains of them could be done to RPC error.
