A stupid question

Heh, I just started to use Avast! Home Edition. Anyway, my question is;

I noticed that there’s a button (when you right-click on the A icon) that says “Start Avast! Antivirus”, but that’s just the scanner right? I’m still protected? Might be a stupid question, but good to be sure. ^^

Thanks,

Yes, you are ok. The right click thing you described is
how you would self start a scan of any area or entire system. Avast has its’ services loaded and are active.
Read this thread for a way you can safely test avast on your system:

I ran it just to see what the warnings look like from Avast. Do not worry, the test file
is a well known, widely used file that folks use to test their anti-virus software.
It is not a virus, just a txt file. Good way to see what any new anti-virus software does.
This way you will know how the program responds to threats. Again, the file is NOT a virus, just a simple test txt.
