After completing a virus scan, I have no problem accessing “Status Information”, “Last Scan Results” and “View Scan Reports” in the Simple Interface Menu. If I try accessing either or all of these at other random times, all three areas are greyed out. I’m sure there is some simple thing I’m probably missing…any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much.
In the Home version this information isn’t retained, so it is only available during that session using the Simple User Interface, once closed this information is gone. So when you open the SUI again these options are unavailable (greyed out) as the data isn’t there to display.
These information is only kept by the Professional version into Sessions…
Thanks…I’m glad I asked.
You’re welcome.
I think I must have missed something here? I do know the other two aren’t retained (in home version, or simple interface), but isn’t the Status Information always available? Why would that one be greyed out on his system?
If you haven’t scanned anything the status would be unset so if nothing is there the option will be greyed out, see image. Just open the SUI but don’t run anything and check the menu options and you will see.
Thanks, David. I presume you mean after first installing avast, or possibly uninstalling (completely) and then reinstalling … my Status Info is right up to date when I first open the interface (“start avast”).
No, the status referred to in the simple user interface menu relates to the scan if you do as I did (and I suspect the same for NLT) I open the simple user interface by a shortcut directly to the ashSimpl.exe so no memory scan has been completed.
Even if I do open it via the Start avast antivirus, but don’t start an on-demand scan it is still greyed out for me.
It isn’t that important as it only populates the fields in the Simple User Interface.
OK, now I’m stumped, David – are we talking about the same “Status Information” window? If after finishing a scan I’m looking at the results summary and then hit that menu-link, I’m returned to the same window as the one which shows when the interface first opens. Indicates:
- Current database version
- Resident protection mode
- Date of last scan
- VRDB (date last generated)
- Auto updates setting
Just occurred to me, I didn’t check whether maybe that menu item’s greyed out as unnecessary when I first start avast, before scanning, since I’m already in that window. Alwil did put in pretty “smart” menus, after all, especially the context menu where the last item is Stop/Start on-access protection depending on its current status.
(Edit) Aha, just checked and was right, maybe or maybe not for the right reason. That menu item is greyed out when I first open avast, probably because you don’t need it since you’re already where it would take you.
