ad-aware problem

http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=783
does anyone know or have heard of a problem with ad-aware recently that stops or freezes when running a scan on your computer-it does on mine ::slight_smile:
and i have ran a full chkdisk run on my computer with NO errors or findings :o

No problem here…
When the problem occurs?
What were you doing when the error appear?
Any error message?
Any other scanning being performed at the same time?

hi tech–no…i have the full version of ewido 4.0 and spy sweeper 5.0 as real time and nothing else

it just stops or freezes at around halfway through scan :-X

tech-i found and fixed the problem 8)

One other observation is that certain security software all running at the same time can cause conflicts. A number of Adaware users who also are running the beta version of SpySweeper have reported that disabling SpySweeper during an Adaware scan has resolved that conflict.
To temporarily disable SpySweeper:

off the ad-aware forum(above)even though i have the full spy sweeper 5.0 i turned it off and ad-aware worked…why are all this time would there be a conflict-maybe the new version of spy sweeper???

Note to all who have spy sweeper 5.0

i just found out that if your ad-aware scan stops or freezes and you have spy sweeper 5.0-you have to shut down 5.0 for the ad-aware to work :o

have a good one avast! world ::slight_smile:

Because of this, I’ve asked this:

Although, I was thinking about on-demand scanning…

Glad that you’ve managed it 8)

thanks Tech for the reply :o

working fine NOW! ;D

This just goes to prove that to much of to many good things,
can turn out to be a bad thing.

 Hi all :

I am under the impression that it is best to have ONLY 1
antiSPYWARE program provide "real-time" protection ( just
like only 1 antivirus program ), so would not think it wise to
 have Ewido's "Resident Shield" & SpySweeper's "Shields"
"active" at the same time, especially if one also has one of
the "paid" versions ( "Plus" or "Professional" ) of Ad-Aware
which has its own "Shields" !?

scroll down list
works fine with spy sweeper and i have ad-watch off 8)

thanks for all the replies and help :frowning:

Hi forum members,

Have to point out to you all, that software incompatibility is a growing problem, this can cost you dearly in stability, and you can loose even part of your OS. I experienced this. Certain programs fighting over processes or dll’s. Taking the example of a dll, conflicting versions give conflicting program execution, if the program does not find the full functionality in a dll it needs, you will get a crash or other problems slowly eating away. Reason developers are under such a pressure launching their codes, that decent de-bugging has less priority. Solution: stick to the version that does for you what you want of it, and has no compatibilty issues, upgrade only if security wise this is a must or you need new features. Second check your dll’s with dll checker to see there are no conflicting versions.
Some experience driver program incompatibilities.

Thanks for the info polonus ;D

You’re welcome, but another thing why you always should perform a crap cleaning after every computer session, especially of all temp files that can be considered crap.

Adware Sleeper Agents:

Adware files that are inactive until called into action by scripts embedded into web site pages. These files are remains of past infestations that never were detected as they were never active, usually living in temp folders or the downloaded program folders and hidden from view by the average user. In particular we mean hidden xml code that is hard to detect or uninstall even.

Webhelper4you warns that these inactive chunks of malware can be re-activated later, better get rid of these pieces of malicious code for good, crapclean or ATF them into electronic oblivion (or at least in MS terms de-link and hope they will soon be overwritten, because delete in windows you cannot. Only with a hammer or a magnet, so to say ( joke, but in a sense the truth).

hey polonus

i do-using Ccleaner or Webroots(people who make Spy Sweeper)Window Washer to clean the crap and other goodies

just talked to webroot tech support(spy sweeper) and they just discovered a issue between spy sweeper and ad-aware causing it to freeze or stop during a scan…they said it was one of the 13 shields that spy sweeper has and are working on the problem

out in the real world for a couple of days and won’t be on the forum so take care everyone in the avast! world
