ad blocker not working (resolved)

the ad blocker is not working on download.com and other sites

It’s working here. A screenshot would be helpful.

heres a screen shot

Just for your information, uBlock Origin also doesn’t block the ads on that website.

Firefox with content blocking enabled blocks all the ads and so does the Brave Browser both are able to block all the ads

Have just installed ACB ASB browser as shown by yesterday’s screenshot: 10 ads total and 4 for CNET website?

Not a site I’d use for downloads as CNET is known for deceptive download/ad link practices. (There are better sites for free downloads.)

Most objectionable is the stolen focus in browser when AdBlocker is set to OFF in first png attached below. Once that appears, you have to click the ‘X’ or sign up, and page is littered with ads.

Ctrl+Shift+Delete will remove detritus at close of page or Ctrl+H will preview History of visited sites; choose Privacy Cleaner>Advanced>All Time and toggle what you like for cleaning.

ASB as default does not block much even with AdBlocker set to on. You’ll need to go into privacy settings/AdBlock settings to change to your preferences.

Avast Adblocker>More options>Advanced Settings>3rd Party filters.

[EDIT:] Useful add-on program to block PUP installs here: https://unchecky.com/

thank you for the info but still not working went in a blocked everything in avast adblock advanced settings and enabled all of the 3rd party filters and still not blocking the ads

p.s. what websites would you recommend i download from if i don’t use download.com?

I personally like MajorGeeks. https://www.majorgeeks.com/

thank you Bob but any other ideas because the ad blocker should be working

Avast AdBlocker is working despite what you say. Just not the way you want.

No adblocker blocks 100% of anything. Primary use of an adblocker is to prevent/block malicious drive-by ad downloads that can compromise your system, which is what Avast Adblocker does. It’s an integral part of Avast Secure Browser more secure than Firefox out of the box. Repeating over and over that something does not work/block at all when it does does not make it a true statement.

Glad I was able to help you otherwise. You’re right, the internet cam be a dangerous place for the naive or unwary.

I will have to agree to disagree because as I said before both the Brave Browser and Firefox Browser block all the ads but anyway I’m just going to mark this as resolved thank you all for your help
