I just had a virus warning saying that ADC.exe had been found on my computer. It turned out to be my program Advanced Disc Cleaner, (adc.exe) I inadvertently deleted the file. The program no longer works. I thought I might just mention this as there are others viruses with the same make-up. So how will you define this in future?

Using the nuclear (delete) option as you first response is not the best idea (as you now are probably aware). First do no harm, send it to the virus chest and investigate.

If you are getting a virus warning that you believe it is a false positive, then if you can zip and password protect (‘virus’, will do) the suspect file and send it to virus @ avast.com (no spaces).

Give a brief outline of the problem (possibly a link to this thread), the fact that you believe it to be a either a new, undetected virus or false positive and include the password in the body of the email. Some info on the avast version and VPS number (see about avast {right click avast icon}) will also help.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. You can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.

If it is indeed a false positive, add it to the exclusions lists and check scan it periodically using the ashQuick scan (right click scan), when it is no longer detected then remove it from the exclusions.

Thank you for that advice David, but I wasn’t worried about deleting it. I new I could always reinstall it. I also wrote to Innovative Solutions to ask them about it. Here is their reply. I reinstalled it and put it in the Exclusion Zone of Avast but it doesn’t take any notice, and I still can’t use it.

Thank you for your message. If you downloaded Advanced Disk Cleaner
from our website or from Download.com then I can guarantee that it is
101% spyware and virus free. We had similar reports in the past but
all of them were fake. More than this, Download.com checked our
program with several antiviruses before publishing it.

I think it is a false alarm.

I have tried emailing to Avast. It tells me the file is too big. Most probably because it is the whole Advanced Disc Cleaner Program. Why can’t you just check it out with Innovative Solutions? Also when I download the program why doesn’t AshQuick.exe find the Trojan when it scans my download manager?

That entirely depends on, what the file type is that it is downloaded in, if you have your download program set to have ashQuick.exe scan it.

This has been resolved now by the latest update as per attached email from Avast

Hi David sorry I said you it was a figure of speech, I meant Avast. Problem has been solved now so thank you for your replies. I must try perfecting my grammar.
