v5 of the ADNM (Small Business Console according to the last blogposting in februari 2010) should be coming out soon, ive been told januari.
but its unsure if that is going to happen in januari…
there are 2 packages of avast:
consumer packages (which are the main focus of avast)
business packages
the v5.5 v5.1 you read about now are the consumer packages
stay away from avast for business… last update was over a year ago… they focus way too much on consumer versions… i dont see them changing to a more balanced approach any time soon
stay away from this forum if you have no useful input.
If you dont like the product because you believe that its not good when there is no update for a while, then choose another product
dont be a child and scream to everybody to stay away…
ps: everyone… stay away from South Africa, the last rape or murder was just a few seconds ago!!
@WPN
so if I understand you correctly wpn we should just shut up and be happy with the support that the business users have been getting on products we purchased with the promise of product updates?
I am sorry but my company purchased 400 licenses now I can upgrade the workstations to version 5 but I can forget about managing them not to even mention the bad server product support. and I still have a year and a Half left on my licenses. I must admit I loved avast but the support is not what it should they had promised a new adnm for almost a year now and they are simply not producing.
I believe the above is spot on and there is simply no reliable communications from the avast team.
Guess I wont be renewing my 400 licenses, with the current attitude business clients should be warned. now I guess you will probably rag on me for being from South Africa too.
no im saying that the way williamstam rambles about how bad something is, is the most stupid form of communication there is…
as a company i will not do business anymore with that person/company because of the way he communicates about it…
nomather if he has a valid point, bring it differently and you create understanding instead of disgust…
the point he tries to make is valid but its also known to the users
avast has their (free) home software as their primairy product… no secret, its what avast team says…
and the professionals here assessed what are the implications of the engine bein at the version it is, the working of it and make a descision on it to keep using the software or not…
so far i have been more disappointed in a product (McAf…) that actually was up-to-date and still left about 10 different KNOWN virusses on several computers and networkdrives (luckely they where there before i entered the company, so i cleaned all up when i came)…
and avast cought them all, still keeps catching virusses that are out there…
the biggest part of the virusses is detected because of the signatures that are updated daily, not because the engine is update every day…
Considering I’m now running 6 beta at home, maybe its worth getting that down pat so the new sandboxing can be used? I’ve been running 4.8 ADNM at work on 30+ systems, and I’ve been largely happy with it: the exception being tackling some IE-triggered web exploits. I also would LOVE IPv6 support in the new console.
feb 8 is the evangelists meeting
the evangelists that are going there will ask when the new ADNM (called Small Business Console) will be released since its due for 6 months now
So the date for the mysterious evangelists meeting has come and gone - did the meeting happen? Any news? I’ve seen talk of a v6, it’d be nice to get businesses up to v5 before then!
yes the meeting took place
according to one of the attendees there is a lot more going to happen in 2011.
This info probably will be published on the evangelists part of the forum
I have been using avast standard business suite for a LONG time and I am like everyone else – when exactly will this product be updated to the newest technology.
There is nothing more frustrating for me – the person responsible for protecting the corporate network – than to live with unknown or non existent time frames for VERY IMPORTANT software updates.
My biggest frustration comes from needing to use a non-managed version of Avast Internet Security on the MOST VULNERABLE machines in the company – traveling laptops. I just want the Avast team to know how complicated it is to run in a hodged-podged manner, now throw in the attempting to manage the license files on them MANUALLY and heaven forbid they do not expire at the same time.
So long story short – for Pete’s sake – tell the community when the newest business products will be released. If you have no clue, then state that. If something is not announced soon – then this will be most likely the last renewal cycle we will have with Avast. It is no longer acceptable to run partly managed and partly unmanaged clients on the network anymore.
Before someone throws flames back me at me with the traditional “good luck with your new protection” I will simply state I am not protecting a simple home computer here and if it gets compromised no biggie – just dump and reload. We are talking MILLIONS of dollars of possible damage, downtime and lost revenues should the network become compromised. So either Avast is committed to their business customers or they are not.
I have started moving my clients away from the Business version of Avast starting at the beginning of March for the very reasons stated above. My clients are just too wide open using the 4.8 of Avast on their workstations and laptop. I am spending WAY too much time fixing virus that should be and are caught by the latest version of the Avast software. I might as well be running Microsoft Security Essentials on the workstations.
:-\
For above comments, help me understand why, if it’s not broken should it be fixed AND if they are providing VPS updates for version 4.8 how are you at risk?
You must be terrible Network Administrators if you solely rely on what the latest AV SOFTWARE update is…makes no sense (you should never rely fully on AV software to protect a network, NO AV product will ever be 100% due to the human element).
I run 4.8 just fine in many networks…no virus issues…
Be patient, Avast! will pull through when it’s ready, unless you WANT them to act like Microsoft and throw out a product before it’s ready!
(stupid comment about Microsoft Security Essentials and Avast! 4.8 by the way, Avast! catches more virus’s 6 months out of date than MSE would ever catch when fully updated)
Yes, MSE is something else… Without central management, worse performance, but free for small business (up to 10 devices) You can freely choose, what you prefer…
I will say only one thing about the “4.8 works just fine” and similar comments…
true… it works… but it’s Vista and Win7 support seems to be falling behind. Looks like it’s back in the game for 6.0 so I, like many others I think, would like to see things move along a bit quicker. I like Avast, I recommend it constantly (all versions) and I’m not likely switch to anything else. I’m now forced (kicking and screaming) into Win7 (birdie to MS) and need to know that my anti-virus solution is going to catch up.
I think the main issue on my network is that when we first purchased avast 4.8, we didn’t have any Windows 7 machines in the office. We now have more than a dozen running microsoft office 2010 (with Exchange Server 2007).
I don’t think it is unreasonable to point out that the support for Windows 7 and Outlook / Exchange has fallen behind.
I agree with Wheaties… It’s a good product, even if it has not been upgraded in a while. However, I would like to know when we can expect a new release. We have 1500 licenses, and we are in the first year of a three-year license.
