Advice on renewing my free subscription please

Hi, I’m a very satisfied user of Avast anti-virus but I keep on receiving pop-ups saying that I am running in trial mode, that my trial ends in a few days and inviting me to purchase a new license. I applied for a new free subscription and have been sent a new license key but have failed to find a screen to enter it. Would welcome any advice please. Thanks

do you have avast 4.8 ? or avast 5 ?

If you don`t have avast 5 i recomend you install it as support for avast 4.8 will end…

Hi, thanks for picking this up. I already version 5.0.094 but cannot find a way of renewing it?

I have windows98SE and chose Avast because they supported it. the renewal tool does nothing and i assume 98 is no longer supported. is that right??

That is correct,

Avast 5 will not run on Windows 98. You will need a newer OS.

Avast 4.8 WILL run on Windows 98 and above. However, support for Avast 4.8 is expected to end on December 31, 2010.

Nowadays there are fewer and fewer viruses able to infect Win 98… :wink: I mean, most of them aim at Win XP and Win 7… By the time avast! is no longer compatible with Win 98, say, your pc would be as safe as Linux… ;D

There aren’t fewer and fewer viruses that can infect win9.x, any of the old ones can, they don’t disappear and much of the viruses with have no problem on 32bit OSes, they don’t seem to discriminate between OSes.
