I am new to these forums so please bear with me. I have this problem where if i am on the internet then a pop up ad called “Ads served by ads site” suddenly appears. I have run Avast anti virus, zone alarm, stop zilla, Ad-Ware 2007, AVG anti virus and AVG spy ware but it still keeps on popping up. All i am asking how the hell do i remove and where did it come from even though i have anti virus and spyware programs running. Any help would be much appreciated as it is getting annoying now, and is it a threat to my security?
I’m surprised adaware didn’t find anything after all it is ads, so it my be as I suspect something which you installed that cause the pop-ups. So have you done something like this recently ?
I am running Firefox, so i am thinking about clean uninstalling that. I have not added any tool bars or installed any new software in the past week, the problem only started during the last week or so.
It will be good if you download, install, update and run AVG Antispyware. Some users recommend SUPERantispyware, Spyware Terminator and/or a-squared (take care about false positives).
If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
Also, if you still detecting strange behaviors or you want to be sure you’re clean, maybe making a HijackThis log to post here and, specially, scan and submit to on-line analysis the RunScanner log would help to identify the problem and the solution.
I have pop up blocker enabled. I will try a some of the programs that have been mentioned by Tech. If none of these work then i will post a HiJack this log.
Think i have got rid!! Used Spyware Terminator (brilliant program) done a scan and it picked up more than my other programs, cant believe that its free, also installed the virus software that is with it. Also removed firefox and downloaded again and it seems to have done the trick, so fingers crossed!!
Whilst they say that the AV that comes with it is on-demand there are I believe servises running for it, so I would have advised against installing the AV component.
Having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.
