After Avast installation: Windows 10 doesn't show all users at login

Hi,

as the title says: I have 2 Microsoft user accounts on my Windows 10 Pro machine. At login I could choose which user I want to login.
After having installed Avast Premier, Windows 10 only shows me the last logged in user. I need to login, logout to get to choose the other account.
Tried multiple options to get all users displayed after the restart “regedit, secpol.msc, net…”

Is this just a coincidence or is Avast the reason for this behavior? If so, how can I change that?

Cheers,

Jan

Did you restart computer after install ?

Yes, that’s when I realized to problem.

Was like this:
Windows 10 Pro setup with 2 Microsoft-users (both Admins).

  1. Starting the pc, showing one account to login and the other one to choose on the left bottom of the login-screen.
  2. Login in
  3. installing Avast Premier
  4. restarting
  5. only one account showing at the login-screen, nothing on the left bottom
  6. login in
  7. sign out
  8. both accounts are shown
  9. login in
  10. restarting
  11. only one account showing

  • Which version of Premier…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Hi,

newest Premier and Windows 10 64bit Pro
Only additional “AV” was Windows Defender.
Deinstalling Avast fixed the problem…trying bitdefender now.

Hi Jan, if you’re not interested in troubleshooting, I wonder why you started this thread…? ???

I’ve paid for Avast, so of course I am interested in troubleshooting. Maybe you misunderstood me.
I want to use it, but like I said, deinstalling the program fixed the mentioned problem. No problem with Bitdefender.
I though this information helps figuring out the problem with Avast or points in the right direction.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!
https://support.avast.com/article/11/

Then:

  1. Download Avast Premier Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Hi,

thanks. Did that and Avast is working fine. The problem is still there though. But after a couple of restarts it also happened with Avast deinstalled. So it’s not related to Avast. Which is great, so I can keep using Avast. But it also sucks, since this means I still don’t know what’s wrong.
Windows 10 problem so not your “problem”.

Sry for wasting your time. But thanks for your responses.

Just to let you know the solution to this Windows not Avast related problem:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

Create or edit the “HideFastUserSwitching” to “1”

NP Jan and thanks fior the feedback.
