after I install avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80923 - i lose connectivity

After I install Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80923 - I can no longer get out to the internet.

I run the network connectivity and it tells me that i have a problem with my firewall.

I’m running XP-service pack 3 with windows firewall turned on using IE7 as my browser.

In order to restore my internet connectivity - I do a restore back to my the checkpoint I took before I installed Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80923.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well I would start by not installing an old version of avast, I can only assume you didn’t get it directly from avast.

The network connectivity would appear to be correct:
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update and reconnect to the internet, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

You could do a manual program update (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), select Updating, Program Update of course your firewall might block avast.setup the avast update process, same drill as above if it does.

Or - Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Don’t use the Cnet link.
