After installing Avast, iTunes no longer accessible

So I decided to get Avast today, and thought, why not purchase it, since the Premium package looked pretty good. Besides the really annoying and obtrusive notifications every 30 seconds about a threat called vshtools.exe or something like that, it’s been running ok.

But after I cleaned up Junk, broken registries, etc, I now cannot open iTunes. When I click on the icon, it says “The item referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions.”

When I go to Program Files to try and access the folder itself, the iTunes folder doesn’t open, it just says “Access denied” and “You don’t have the appropriate permissions”. I tried to change the ownership but that also failed.

I’m the administrator of this computer, nobody else uses it - there’s only one account. My iTunes library is really important to me and having music on constantly while I study so if I can’t fix this, I’ll be taking that money-back guarantee and trying a different anti-virus software, I think.

As this post has no answer i have reported it to the moderator asking for an answer.

Then i guess you have the one with firewall ....

Is your firewall network profile in puplic or private mode?

Try change mode … does it work then?

At this point you will need to uninstall iTunes and install again with the latest version from the apple.com/iTunes site.

For the library, the music, videos, etc are stored in your personal folders and not in the program itself. So you can easily create a backup:

Hopefully this will restore functionality for you, keep us updated.

Understand the need for Forum protection, 1st time i have experienced it though.

My systems is showing the following:
Within Control Panel the Windows Defender Firewall selection is showing:

A Banner stating - These settings are being managed by Vendor application Avast Premier.
then.
Private networks Not Connected
guest or Public networks Connected

Within Avast Premier > Protection > “Firewall Profile” i have the following status:

Current Network.
Networkname Connected
and to the right of that a slider Private Network Public Network

Host Process for windows services BLocked
System Blocked
iTunes Allowed
Microsoft Outlook Allowed
a copy of other user installed apps - allowed
Search and Cortana application Allowed

NOTE:The Network profiles control the settings which determine how strictly Firewall protects your PC.

Private: a lower level of security suitable for when your PC is connected to a trusted network such as your home or work network. This profile enables better connectivity, and permits all communication within the network.

Public: a higher level of security suitable for when your PC is connected to a public network such as in a cafe or airport. Because public networks present greater security risks, no incoming communication is permitted when this profile is set.
