Or just the mouse shows the hourglass without end?
hi there do not get any error message just get a red circle next to the avast ball in the toolbar move the mouse over the avast ball and it shows avast on-access scanner 0 provider(s) total , 0 running and when you move the mouse and click on the start windows does no do anythick just freezes all you can do is move the mouse there are no hourglass next to the mouse. the laptop is made by Dell 2 Weeks old i have take of the antivirus and then avast went on ???
Do you use any other antivirus in these laptop?
Any other security program?
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
hi no it had mcafee on when i got it i uninstall mcafee and put avast on. No can not get to Control Panel and windows do no let me as it freezes and all you can do is do a hard restart and start again were windows freezes and the red circle next to the avast ball
Can you boot in SafeMode (repeatedly press F8 while booting): http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315222
And try to uninstall avast! and any other McAffee components from there?
hi yes can boot into SafeMode i have download VirusScan removal tool that mcafee have to remove left overs of the software as i e-mail mcafee that they gave me a link to the tool. i run the tool and clean of some files of mcafee left on the laptop. and restart the laptop but we are back to square one with red circle next to the avast ball in the toolbar and windows freezes ???
Please, boot in safe mode again, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events.
Post here the system and applications errors that could be related to the last ‘failed’ boot (when Windows freezed).
Is there anything important into the antivirus tab of events?
