AHHH!!! Drive by download from using google?

Well… this is odd. I was googling sprint. (using google.ca) and all of a sudden avast pops up saying a virus has been detected and I should abort connection.

Here is the event log.

14/06/2008 6:35:39 PM SYSTEM 1748 Sign of “VBS:Malware-gen” has been found in “” file.

Even if I kept aborting connection the pop up kept coming up. So I closed the window. Cleared my temp files. I was using firefox 2.0.0.14

What do I do about this?

First of all disable the URL, leading to the malware - it is dangerous to post such URLs active. Insert a space somewhere in the URL that nobody could occasionally click it.

Then you could scan your PC completely with Avast. The virus you detected infects AUTORUN.INI files on hard and USB drives so the system doesn’t let them open.

Ok, I just deleted the link entirely anyways. I’m curretnly scannign.

YIKES!!! That’s a bad effect. Dang it don’t want to lose my data. At least I have no usb drives only hard drives. hopefully Avast! saved my butt!

Does this mean that you have cleaned succesfully your system?

I did a full scan with Avast! normal level +ARCHIVE FILES (through takes 5 hours and only had 2) then I scanned with Malware byte’s anti malware. Both said no infections. I guess Avast! protected me.
