Whew! Finally! The 4th time was the charm.
The 1st time, I attempted to upload AIM.exe to VirusTotal with AOl.
Very quickly, the Window just Blanked Out. Abort!
The 2nd time, I managed to upload AIM.exe to VirusTotal with Opera, but at the very end, I encountered a Proxy Error.
The 3rd time, I attempted to upload AIM.exe to VirusScan Jotti with AOL.
Very quickly, the Window just Blanked Out. Abort!
The 4th time, I used IE to upload AIM.exe to VirusTotal.
OMG! Lo & Behold! It actually worked. And rather quickly!
Anyway, the VirusTotal Scan verdict of AIM.exe?
It wasn’t given a 100% Clean Bill of Health by all Scan Engines. avast! 4.8.1195 still tagged it with - Adware-gen BitDefender 7.2 tagged it with - Adware.AWS.A DrWeb 4.44.0.09170 tagged it with - Adware.Aws
I don’t know if this means all the other Anti-Virus Scan Engines are missing something significant or if the 3 Scan Engines above are over-stating a Threat.
BTW, for you avast! Evangelists on here, you might look into the fact that as stated above, the avast! version used by VirusTotal for THIS Scan was actually 4.8.1195 instead of the latest 4.8.1201.
Anyway, I’m now ready to Zip the File and send it to avast!
So, can someone recommend a Good, Reliable, SAFE … FREEFile Zipping Utility with Password capability … that works with Windows 98SE?
Is Softpedia a Good, Safe source from which to download IZArc? Cuz Grrrrrrrrrrrrr! I am through … DUN with stupid, useless C/Net Download.com. I can never get anything to download from there. The downloads from there always go a little ways, then stop. And they declare themselves complete, when they’re not. That happened to me twice with Opera one day. And now twice with trying to download this IZArc. I’ve seen, passed by the Softpedia website on many occasions, but have never downloaded anything from there nor really heard any opinions on whether Softpedia is a good source from which to download stuff.

It’s DUN! I Zipped & Encrypted the AIM.exe File and sent it to avast!. I provided all pertinent Info and my reasoning for why it could possibly be a False Positive.
I used your recommended IZArc File Zipping Utility. Interestingly though, when I tried to download IZArc from Softpedia … just like C/Net Download.com, it too just gave me a very quick short download that was obviously not complete. I even just for the heck of it, clicked on the IZArc Install Icon that was placed on the Desktop. It immediately told me the Files were corrupt and to download the Application again. The 2nd time, I downloaded it from SnapFiles, though. So, I HOPE that SnapFiles is also a Good, CLEAN download source because that’s what I used. And it worked very well … very fast.
What’s DUN? ;D Sorry about that. I guess it’s not as universally known as I thought. As DavidR clarified on a subsequent post … “DUN” means - DONE. I got it from the Discovery Channel TV Show Monster House host saying and writing “DUN” when remodeling tasks were DONE. So, by, “It’s DUN …” I just meant the File Zipping / Encrypting / E-mailing to avast! task was DONE. That the wheels were in motion.
Thanks for the Good / No Good Reviews on those Download Sites of which I inquired. By the way, you forgot to give the 2 Thumbs Up or 2 Thumbs Down to SnapFiles. I sure hope you approve of SnapFiles because I just downloaded SUPERAntiSpyware a while ago from there … in addition to my earlier download of IZArc.
Ahhhhh! Interesting. I have an update on the status of the 2 AIM Files that avast! always tags as Adware on the Manual Scans on my computer. After having sent the AIM.exe File to avast! along with all my elaboration on why it might be a False Positive … now onlyONE of the 2 Files gets tagged as Adware. I don’t know if avast! might still be doing more analysis on the remaining File and maybe by the next Virus Database Update, it’ll too be taken off the Adware list. Only the AIM File that said, “[Embedded]” at the end, was taken off the Adware list so far.
