AIS 2014.9.0.2006 and WinPatrol Plus - [Resolved]

Hardened mode, whether it be moderate or aggressive, does not allow WinPatrol.exe to start.

There was no notification stating that Hardened Mode had prevented WinPatrol.exe from starting. I restarted several times and still no notification. If I wasn’t paying attention, I don’t believe I would have known what was causing this.

After adding WinPatrol.exe to the Hardened Mode global exclusions, WinPatrol.exe did start after booting at which time there was a notification showing that Hardened Mode blocked WinPatrolEx.exe. I then added this to the global exclusions using the notification and WinPatrol will start and run fine like this.

It is crucial that if a program is blocked a notification be given.

No problem here with Win 8 or XP ???

You didn’t need to add exclusions? No notifications?

I wonder if it’s a Windows 7 64bit problem?

Hopefully, someone can confirm this.

Nothing Jumped out at me.
Possible I missed something, but not often. ::slight_smile:

WinPatrol Plus running fine on both my systems (XP Pro and win7) along with avast 2014 and no Hardened Mode pop-up (I’ve had a few others, whilst testing it) and no exceptions set.

Thanks to all for their support.

I haven’t heard from anyone else having problems but I had one thought.
Frequently I hear from people who set the properties of WinPatrol.exe to “Run as Administrator”. This isn’t necessary and will actually cause the UAC dialog to appear everytime you boot. You will experience the UAC when you launch the main tabbed interface but not for the monitor component, WinPatrol.exe.
It could be that AIS doesn’t like the security level if it’s been changed to run as admin. Otherwise, glad to hear folks are benefiting from both programs.

Thanks again,

Hi Bill. Good to hear from you. I haven’t changed the properties of WinPatrol.exe and I don’t use UAC.

David and schmidthouse,
Do you have any suggestions? It doesn’t make sense why I am not getting a notification using hardened mode and why is WinPatrol blocked from starting on my computer and not yours?

Everything else seems fine so I’m not sure if a repair or reinstall would solve this. Maybe this can be fixed with a vps update?

Sorry no real suggestions, I was just reporting it was working on both of my systems (XP Pro and win7) on WP default settings and no exceptions in avast.

All I can suggest is checking that you are using the latest WP version, 28.9.2013.1:28.9.2013.1 as that is what I have.

It is weird that you don’t get a Hardened Mode popup, yet when disabling the Hardened Mode WP runs, so I just wonder if there isn’t something else in the mix, possibly the DeepScreen and/or Hardened Mode in conjunction slows the WinPatrol.exe -expressboot startup option so it doesn’t start, but doesn’t find anything to cause an alert/pop-up.

I installed the most recent version of WinPatrol and still had the same problem.

After that, I reinstalled both AIS and WinPatrol and it is working as expected. Weird…

Thank you for your help.

You’re welcome, certainly weird.
