Allow an app to bypass the firewall

How do I allow an app to bypass the firewall without turning it off?

What makes you think that it is the Firewall that is stopping it ?

Screenshot may help.

The Firewall and Network Inspector work closely together. So it could be either of these in conflict with what you are trying to achieve.

I am running Creality Print 6.1.1 and it says there is no internet connection. When I turn the firewall off, it connects. This is the only software I have that does this. It is in the allowed app section with the usual firewall rules.

You could try adding it to the Firewall Rules, though I’m not certain this is the true cause.

Here is a screenshot of the Rule List in Avast:

I have to disable the firewall and be sure VPN is off for the program to access the printer and the internet.

If this is a Home Network then it may have to do with how you have the Firewall Network Settings, setup.
I’m on an uncomplicated Home Network, which I have set as Trusted.

This allows your printer access without issue or it does for me.

I don’t know if this might be further complicated by your use of a VPN (I don’t use one).

Thanks for the “trust” on my network, this seems to let the program work. I, too, have a rather uncomplicated network but I set my VPN to “Ask” and it seems to let Creality Print work. The program links to the online site and the VPN seems to foul things up between the printer connection in my network and the program’s site connection.

As I mentioned I don’t use a VPN, but the fact that you do is somehow getting in the way of the connection.

So it would appear that the print function isn’t totally on your local network. This could compound the local network setting as it is essentially stepping outside of the local network and its trusted status to an internet connection involving a VPN function also.

At that point the Web Shield may also become involved, If the site used for the Creality Print to function, you could add the site link to the Avast Settings > General > Exceptions.

This should also apply to the Web Shield or you would have to do what you are currently doing to get it to work.
You should realise this could leave you vulnerable to any future issues with that site or possibly 3rd party links from it (thought I think the Web Shield would scan those 3rd party links).
