Hello. If you decide to install Software and it has spyware that you deem ok, or permissable, how do you program Avast 4 home to allow the particular part to be installed. Because if Avast removes it, the program no longer works. thank you
Bi hard to know what to do without knowing what the installed program was???
You need to use the Exclusion lists:
For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…
For the other providers (on-demand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple User Interface):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…
You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be careful, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.
But, why are you wanting to use a spyware program? Which one is it?

I want to use Hotline client 1.9. version 1.8.5 will not install on my computer now. version 1.8.4 does not work right. Avast removes the spyware part but then Hotline will not work.
Please submit it to JOTTI or, better, VirusTotal and let us know the results.

Tech. I’m not sure how to go about this. Would I exclude the actual program to be installed? Avast removes the adaware as it is being installed

VirusTotal basically shows it as “not-a-virus:AdWare.Win32.Cydoor”; although eSafe shows it as “suspicious Trojan/Worm”. Oddly Avast, on VirusTotal, did not say anything. Webwasher-Gateway says it is a “Trojan.Cydoor.A.14”. Hotline will not be used on my main computer.
VT has often returned strange results for avast as its version of the VPS is often older than the users VPS which is updated automatically.
They (VT) are aware of this problem but so far they haven’t been able to resolve how they can update the VPS more frequently.
It’s not safe, but you will need to disable avast to proper install the application.
Care: you’re installing a spyware in your computer (at least, avast thinks so).
It won’t remove, it will just ignore, won’t detect.
I still am confused as to how to tell Avast to ignore program. I am in the Advanced mode, as illustrated. When I click Add, it puts “modify path” but from here, I don’t know what to do to exclude program. Do I actually type in the path. thanks
Yes you need to type the path in there.
You would also need to add it to the Program Settings, Exclusions, This one at least allows you to browse to find the file. You could use this first and copy the path that it returns to save typing it into the Standard Shield, Advanced section, Add.
