But it still keeps asking for them. How do I turn that ‘feature’ off please.

I have been thinking the same, that’s what drew me back into the forum after a prolonged absence. Seems there is a lot of correspondence about Thunderbird certificate problems. Interesting link you found. And interesting that it didn’t work. I didn’t review all the links but I found this: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=126642.msg954838#msg954838 which says it is a bug and will be fixed in the next program release, and meantime can be fixed by reinstalling Avast. I CBA to do that if it’s just a cosmetic bug - easier to just keep “permanently” storing exceptions 
- so I’m going to wait for the bugfix. Program updates come out fairly regularly. My guess is what you are experiencing is this bug rather than whatever else your link is talking about.
